Local Leader in Me program sets building blocks for skilled future workforce

PRYOR, Oklahoma - Have you heard of the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey? Or maybe his later work The Leader in Me?

Some students at one Pryor elementary school have not only heard of it, they're also living it.

Tyler Collins, Ailey Markle and Jordan Lenon are 6th graders here at Roosevelt Elementary in Pryor which was just designated a Lighthouse School.

"Our superintendent started it here by just giving us all a book. We wanted to look at leadership and character and how we are doing this in our schools," said Roosevelt Principal, Brian Bradshaw.

The Leader in Me program is a spinoff of Dr. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People; it's like an operating system for a school, and the teachers parents and students here at Roosevelt are all in.

Everywhere you look there are reminders of leadership, good character traits and the seven habits of highly effective people.

Roosevelt is the first Lighthouse School in Oklahoma, and one of only 110 in the world.

At 9,000 acres, MidAmerica is one of the nation’s largest industrial parks, strategically located at a northeast Oklahoma crossroads.
