MidAmerica Industrial Park and ODOT Secure $38.7 Million for Connectivity Improvements

01/28/2025

Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and MidAmerica Industrial Park today announced a $38.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rural Surface Transportation Grant program to fund the MidAmerica Connectivity Project. The project will deliver significant infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, reduce congestion and boost economic growth in northeast Oklahoma.

The MidAmerica Connectivity Project includes seven key infrastructure upgrades, such as a new US-412/SH-412B interchange, roadway reconstructions and multimodal paths for pedestrians and cyclists. These improvements are expected to address safety issues, improve the flow of freight and enhance the industrial park’s accessibility for businesses and residents.

“This investment in transportation infrastructure is vital to improving safety and connecting Oklahoma communities,” said Tim Gatz, Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation Executive Director.  “The enhancements at MidAmerica Industrial Park are a critical step toward ensuring Oklahoma’s continued growth and strengthening the state’s transportation network, including upgrading part of US-412 for future interstate designation.”

The project includes construction of a new US-412/SH-412B interchange to improve access, reduce congestion, and improve connectivity within the park.  The interchange will improve delivery times and overall safety for the 80+ companies at MidAmerica.

“These updates will help make MidAmerica Industrial Park an even more attractive destination for businesses, furthering job creation and economic opportunity for northeast Oklahoma,” said MidAmerica Chief Administrative Officer David Stewart.

The $38.7 million award is part of nearly $5 billion in infrastructure grants announced by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these grants support more than 560 projects across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories, including the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program. Established in 2021, this program focuses on improving and expanding rural surface transportation infrastructure to enhance safety, connectivity and economic vitality.

Nationally, these investments will fund projects ranging from bridge replacements in remote areas to modernizing rural highways critical for freight movement. In Oklahoma, the MidAmerica Connectivity Project highlights how targeted investments can address local needs while advancing broader economic and transportation goals.

“MidAmerica Industrial Park continues to make strategic investments in infrastructure to enhance its role as an economic engine for the region,” Stewart said. “The improvements made possible by this grant will position MidAmerica for continued growth and success.”
